The Yamal cartoon film “How Nyanchedo Myniku Taught Man to Fly” was included in the program of the first International festival of animation films of small peoples Tribal Animation Film Festival (TAFF). This information was given to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” by filmmakers from the Studio “Myniku”.
The festival will be held in the Indian city of Shillong from the 1st to the 3rd of March. The organizers invited the screenwriter Ekaterina Steponaitis and the producer Mikhail Korobov to visit India and to present their film at TAFF-2019. This is the only Russian film included in the festival program.
The animated film “How Nyanchedo Myniku Taught Man to Fly” was made in 2005 on the basis of Nenets mythology.
“The spirit of the song of the North, the man-bird Nyanchedo Myniku, who was born on the far northern island Vaygach, on the instructions of the wise shaman goes to Yamal to find a man and teach him to fly. But Myniku has to fly through the seven heavens alone, as the man has no enough free time – he pastures his reindeer. Flying through the seven heavens, Myniku learns the great secret, which he hurries to tell the man…”.
At the Worldview Film Festival in 2006 the cartoon film was awarded with the prize named after Vladimir Kobrin “For the deep philosophical approach to cinematographic art and achievements in development of visual language”.
